Hugh W. Catts, Ph.D., is professor and chair of the Department of Speech-Language-Hearing: Sciences and Disorders at the University of Kansas. Hugh received his Ph.D. from the University of Florida and completed postdoctoral training at Johns Hopkins University. He teaches undergraduate courses in communication disorders and graduate seminars in reading and language-learning disabilities. His research interests include the study of the early identification and classification of reading disabilities. He is currently involved in a large-scale longitudinal investigation of language and reading development. Hugh is the vice president of the Society for the Scientific Study of Reading. He also serves on the editorial boards of several scientific journals and is on the scientific advisory board of the International Dyslexia Association. He has written numerous papers related to reading disabilities and has recently completed a book, titled Language and Reading Disabilities.
